Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) received a visit of Dr. Nello Angerilli (Associate Vice-President, International, University of Waterloo Canada) and Prof. Dr. Ken Seng Tan of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, University of Waterloo Canada, Thursday (1/10). The visit is aimed to strengthen the relationship between FMIPA of IPB, especially the Department of Mathematics and University of Waterloo as the Department is preparing a new study program, Actuarial Study Program.
 
The study program of Actuarial Science at University of Waterloo (UW) is consisered as the 3rd best ranking in the world. Therefore, in line with the internationalization program promoted by IPB, this cooperation is viewed as strategic. Present at this meeting were Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Sri Nurdiati, Heads of the Departments, and lecturers in FMIPA-IPB.
 
Dr. Angerilli in his presentation mentioned data of the big need for actuary in the world, including in Indonesia, which has yet to be met by the existing education system. It is reported that Indonesia needs about two thousand Actuaries. University of Waterloo through the support of the Government of Canada in collaboration with several major universities in Indonesia is developing human resources for the Actuarial field in a program known as READI (Risk Management, Actuarial Scence Sustainability and Economic Development in Indonesia Project).
 
According to Dr. Angerilli, if IPB wants to develop a program of Actuarial studies, UW is ready to cooperate with IPB in the form of developing human resource for lecturers, Double Degree Program, as well as research cooperation. In human resource development, Dr. Angerilli also mentioned scholarship opportunities for young lecturers to take Actuarial program at UW. (Mtd)
