To Improve the Performances of Its Resources, Pekalongan Municipality Has Signed MoU with Bogor Agricultural University

Rector of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) Prof.Dr Herry Suhardiyanto and Mayor of Pekalongan dr.H.Muhammad Basyir Ahmad have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the empowerment programs for Resources Development of Pekalongan Mnicipality, on Monday, 29 June 2015, at IPB Campus of Taman Kencana, Bogor. In his welcome remarks, Rector stated that he was delighted to welcome any  Pekalongan Local Government plans to establish relationship with IPB as the University  has a lot of innovation that could be applicable for the development of Pekalongan. This MOU shall remain in effect for a period of five (5) years from the date of the last signature. 
 
Mayor of Pekalongan, dr.H. Muhammad Bashir Ahmad in his remarks explained his intention to improve the performances of the human resources and potential of Pekalongan, especially after the city was announced by UNESCO to be one of the Creative Cities Network for Craft and Folk Arts.  "Pekalongan was the only city in Indonesia and even in Southeast Asia which was added to the UNESCO Creative Cities on 2014," he said.
 
The announcement, he explained, cause Pekalongan to continue to improve its performances in all aspects. Not only in the field of crafts and folk art, Pekalongan also has  to improve its Information Technology (IT) services. "Currently Pekalongan has already been rated to have improved information technology accessibility. By establishing networks with IPB, we expect that we will be able to improve our empowerment programs for our  various resources, "he added.
 
With regard to the IT related project, Vice-Rector for Research and Cooperation Prof. Dr Anas Miftah Fauzi, stated that currently IPB has established Cyber Extention facilities to facilitate farmers to dialogue with IPB experts over the internet. "If Pekalongan has established better IT connection, farmers in Pekalongan could utilize the advantage of Cyber Extension of IPB," he said. 
 
In addition, with regard to the potential of  fisheries and marine science of Pekalongan,  Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) of IPB, Prof. Dr Indra Jaya stated with the support of IT connection, Pekalongan could become the largest fish landing centers in Indonesia. Other topics to be discussed on that special occasion were the development of mangrove, Early Childhood Education (ECD) and agriculture in the broad sense. (Wied)
