Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) represented by  the Coastal Resources Research Center and oceans (PKSPL) has established the partnership program with Bremenport and GIZ Germany. The work programs of the  partnership project which took effect  since 2008, have been the development of coastal and marine processing and also the port management. Involves in this partnerships project is the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, Ministry of Transportation of the government of Indonesia.

The project has lasted for almost 6 years, during which a number of activities which have involved many parties have been implemented. Included in the project’ work programs were  the Coastal and marine Processing Training, Training Course on Port Management, Technical Assistance for Port Authority, and Port Authority ToT. Up to now, those program have produced and participated  by 500 graduates and participants. They are from various agencies, including the Ministry of Transport, Local Government of DKI Jakarta, West Java provincial government, provincial government of Aceh, East Timor, Pelindo I-VI, and PT. POS Indonesia. To evaluate the Project, the Bremen Senator,  Mr. Martin Guenthner, visited  IPB.

The visit of Bremen Senator,  Mr. Martin Guenthner (Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour and Port), who was  accompanied by Mr. Tim Cordssen (Personal Assistant Senator), Mr, Robert Home (Managing Director of Bremenports), Dr. Lars Stemmler (Head of International Project Bremenports), Mr. Martin Fort (GIZ-Bremen), Uwe Will (VIA Bremen), Mr. Karlheinz Heidemeyer (Chamber of Commerce and Industrie Bremen). They were officially received by the Acting Rector Prof. Dr Herman Siregar, who was accompanied by the Chairman of the Senate IPB and IPB PKSPL Adviser Prof. Dr Tridoyo Kusumastanto, Prof. Dr Rokhmin Dahuri (Lead Advisor of PKSPL IPB), Dr. Luky Adrianto (Head PKSPL IPB), Prof. Dr Nur Azam (Deputy Director MB IPB), Capt. Sukresno (Chairman of the Indonesian Port Association) and the teachers Ports, Shipping and Logistics. The reception  took place on 8 November 2014, at the  Executive Room Lounge, Campus IPB Baranangsiang.

The meeting was to explore any possibilities to  develop the present collaboration program which has been running well. As stated by the Acting Rector, Prof. Dr. Hemanto Siregar, with reference to the current statute of IPB as stated in the PP (Government Regulations) No. 66 / 2013, IPB has been mandated to perform educational program on  Agriculture, Marine and Tropical Biosciences. Under this new mandate, in the near future IPB will develop maritime and marine science. The new program is really aligned with the new spirit of the present government that emphasizes its national development on maritime program. Further, Prof. Herman explained that IPB also has established  international cooperation with universities in Germany and other European countries,  and a number of  faculty members of IPB pursued and obtained their tertiary education from Germany ad other European universities.

The Senator of Bremen, Mr. Martin Guenthner, stated that the present cooperation with IPB has been running well, however in the future the present work programs should be improved. Opportunities to develop maritime in wider areas might be explored. Not only on the port management, but also logistics and its environmental management. The Senators further suggested to involve Bremen universities, such as the University of Bremen and the University of Applied Sciences, Hochschule, Bremen.

Moreover, Dr. Luky Adrianto, the Head of PKSPL IPB, explained that  currently PKSPL has developed several programs on ports,  including Master Program in Port Business, and Shipping and Logistics Management which carried jointly with MB IPB. Finally, IPB has also implemented program on  Certification of Ports Authorities as mandated by Act 17 of 2008 on Shipping, and PP No 61 of 2009 concerning port in collaboration with the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, Ministry of Transportation. With regard to the  institutional point of view,  to improve the coordination between government, as actor on business and academician PKSPL IPB have founded professional association called the Indonesia Port Association (IPB).

The two-hour meeting was carried out in familiar atmosphere and relaxed, and had produced several recommendations. One of which will be the internationally standardized ToT for Port Authority II. In addition, the Tanjung Priok management plan will designed by Bremenport, and will be discussed along with IPB and other relevant agencies, as well as other activities that will be developed in the future.

The meeting was concluded by the official luncheon. Then, the delegation went on a visit to Bogor Summer Palace of the President and Botanical Square,  and return to Jakarta. (Wied).
