Village Chief of  Purasari and Village Chief of Malasari, Bogor Regency, admitted to be delighted with the passing of Law No. 6/2014 on Villages by the President of the Republic of Indonesia on January 15, 2014 because this regulation gives villages the spirit of restoring sovereignty and self-governing for human resources, natural resources and other resources.

At least ten Village Chiefs in Bogor Regency were participating in the Workshop " Implications of the Village Law in the Natural Resource Management Toward Village Sovereignty ", Thursday (8/5) at IPB International Convention Center (IICC), Bogor. Apart from the Village Chiefs, a number of academics, activists, and Non- Governmental Organizations (NGOs) attended the workshop organized by the Directorate of Agricultural Policy and Strategic Studies (KSKP-IPB) in cooperation with the Indonesian Young Foresters (RMI).

Earlier, Head of the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies, Institute for Research and Community Service (PSP3-LPPM, IPB), Dr. Lala Kolopaking mentioned that the village needs to develop by looking at the rural areas. This is done in an effort to speed up and improve the quality of services, community development and empowerment in rural areas through a participatory development approach. Through a regional approach, development does not only deal with sufficient living standard, but also includes mutual empowerment and sustainability of natural resources.

On the same occasion Chairman of the Special Committee of Village Law, Budiman Sudjatmiko explained  why the state should support the local-scale village development. According to him , the biggest problem of poverty is in the village, so investments at the village level will foster economic activity and competitiveness of the village. Financial devolution to the villages has proved able to raise the social forces in the village (community participation).

The workshop, moderated by Professor of the Faculty of Forestry, Prof. Dr. Didik Suhardjito, also invited speakers namely: Secretary of Empowerment Agency and Village Government of Bogor Regency, Barkah Rizaludin, SH, and Ir. Muayat Ali Muhshi of RMI. Attending the workshop were Director of KSKP IPB, Dr. Dodik Ridho Nurrochmat and Executive Director of RMI, Nia Ramdhaniaty. (Mtd)
