There is something different about the 7th Agrinex Expo this time. Agrinex, held by Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Performax, coincides with the 50th anniversary of IPB. "We hope the 7th Agrinex Expo becomes one of the efforts in making agriculture become the mainstream of sustainable development in line with the major role of IPB, which has for the last 50 years continuously striving and contributing to the fields of education and research as well as devotion in solving the problems faced by the nation," said Rector IPB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Herry Suhardiyanto in one of the activities in the 7th Agrinex Expo at Jakarta Convention Center.

A series of various activities in the Agrinex Expo have been designed as part of the effort in reviving the national agriculture. Some of these activities are the exhibition of products, innovations, technology, business meetings and talk shows. According to IPB Rector, at present Indonesia is experiencing various issues particularly of food and energy. Agriculture is expected to be part of these issues. In terms of food, IPB Rector said, Indonesia is facing the dependency on food imports. One effort that must be made is to fix the production systems of agriculture in order to meet the needs of domestic food so that Indonesia, continued the Rector IPB, could minimize its import.

Further, said Rector, we should develop various innovations and new breakthrough to solve the problems of food and nonrenewable energy. "Like it or not, the expected innovation comes from the field of agriculture because agriculture is renewable, sustainable and more friendly environmentally.” (Mtd)
