Wednesday Meeting In early 2013: Rector Makes a Collective Dream
Every year, IPB has a regular activity called Wednesday Meeting with all IPB community members. In the Wednesday Meeting in early 2013 held at Graha Widya Wisuda Building, (6/2) Rector invited the community members to set up a collective dream of IPB development for the future.
"I would like to invite all academicians and IPB community members to make a collective dream IPB development for the future. This can in the form of participation in formulating a proposed IPB Strategic Plan of 2014-2018. This Strategic Plan will be our guide together in building and developing IPB over the next five years. Development of IPB will refer to the expectations, desires and aspirations of IPB to be a research based university of international standard which excels as a prime mover of agricultural mainstream," said IPB Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir Herry Suhardiyanto, M.Sc.
Just like last year, 2013 is the Year of Prime Achievement in all the three responsibilities of higher education. Seriousness of IPB to realize the vision can be presented as the best gift for IPB in the 50th Anniversary, which will be celebrated this year.
IPB was established on 1 September 1963, with the ideas and vision of the founding fathers of Indonesia who believe that higher education in agriculture is very essential in the realization of a just and prosperous nation.
The ideas of IPB predecessors recorded with golden ink in the long history of IPB devotion to the people of Indonesia are: Village Unit Cooperatives (KUD) which were born together with the concept of Nutrition and Family Improvement (UPGK) as the implication of the implemented concept of BIMAS; the poverty indicators of the late Prof. Sajogyo; gender mainstreaming through the establishment of Women’s Studies Centre (PSW); IPB graduate program, which was the first of its kind in Indonesia and organized in a structured manner; the student admission based on the academic report (grades) from SMA / MA / SMK known as TUSM (admission without an entrance test), then transformed into PMDK and later became USMI (Selection Invitation Selection to Enter IPB) and now called SNMPTN (National Selection for State University Entrance); and the implementation of major-minor curriculum
"The establishment of IPB is to educate the younger generation to love farming, raise the nation’s awareness of the importance of food so that food shortages would not happen again in the future. IPB has built from hard work and dedication of the entire academic community from generation to generation. Every IPB’s success is a collective success with full of struggle and sacrifice. We should be proud of all the achievements and successes we have reached, but the struggle is not over, the journey is still long. We can not stop our steps before we provide the solution for this nation to become sovereign in food and energy," he said. (Mtd)
