Opening the 49th Anniversary of IPB Goes Lively
The opening of IPB’s 49th Anniversary, on Saturday (1/9) on the field yard of Rectorate Building, Campus Dramaga of IPB went lively. The release of balloons and pigeons marked the opening of the Anniversary labeled "Innovations of IPB for National Food Security".
This event, enlivened with the Hajat Bumi Dance by the Student Activity Unit of IPB for Sundanese Art of Gentra Kaheman, served at the same time as the admission of 3847 new students. The admission is symbolically marked by the putting on of alma mater jackets and the embedding of IPB pin to two new student representatives, namely Kosmus Imbiri of SMA 1 Waropen Papua, and Irnawati of SMA 1 Sigli, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam.
On this occasion, Rector gave awards to lecturers, Heads of Study Program Chair, and outstanding students at both IPB, national and international levels. Rector, in his speech, said that for 49 years IPB has kept making advances in innovation. Within the period IPB has produced 510 innovations, 179 of which have received innovation awards from the Ministry of Research and Technology. Furthermore, for five consecutive years, IPB’s innovations have always dominated the awards of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
"The challenge of IPB ahead is to put the existing innovation into effect for the benefit of the wider community. Indeed, only 10 percent of the resultied innovations are used in the community. Therefore, we continue to make efforts so that all innovations can be applied in the community," said Rector.
According to Rector, the constraints faced in the application of IPB’s innovations are the differences between innovation users and innovators. Thus, not all of the innovative works are put into use. Further, he said there is the need for the public support, especially the younger generation to use the works of our own country.
"If we are together making the supports to our own works, this will certainly encourage the improvement in the use of innovative works of the nation," said Rector. In the same place, the Committee Chairman of IPB’s 49th Anniversary, Meika Syahbana Dr. Rush, said, the inauguration activities will last until 30 September 2012. The various activities that enliven the 49th Anniversary include the campaign of analog rice, presentation of scientific papers and public hearing, IPB Forum Listening, Appreciation Night, Launching of Books by IPB’s Professor, and the campaigns of local fruits and healthy morning walk.
