In the second period of 50 years, Indonesia is endowed with a very large population at productive age and this can be disastrous if it can not improve the quality of human resources in an accurate and good planning, according to the Supervising Ceremony, Rector of IPB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Herry Suhardiyanto, MSc when reading the speech of the Minister of National Education in the commemoration of the 66th Anniversary of RI in IPB, on the yard of Nasoetion Andi Hakim Building, Darmaga Campus of IPB, (17 / 8).

The celebration of the 66th Anniversary of RI at this time coincides with the Holy month of Ramadan, i.e. the 17th day of Ramadan which the Muslims call the day of Nuzulul Qur’an (when the Qur’an is descended). Emphasized in the speech is the essence of the Independence Proclamation, that is, our preparedness to manage all potential and  resources that we have to provide the maximum benefit for all people of Indonesia. This is where the importance of education is, which can explore our entire potentials: human, cultural and natural potential. It is within that framework that the nation’s character-based education should always be reaffirmed.

The commemoration of the 66th RI Anniversary in IPB was followed about 3700 new students of batch 48. Wearing hats, with white-black uniforms as a marker of participants in the Campus Orientation or Introduction for New Students (MPKMB), these new students filled up the ceremony ground, lining up between the teaching staff and employees of IPB.

At this occasion, apart from the award of Satyalancana Karyasatya, other  appreciations were also given for a series of achievements successfully made by students, faculty members, and educational personnel in IPB such as  Outstanding Student, Outstanding Lecturer, Outstanding Head of Study Program, Outstanding General Administrative Staff, Outstanding Educational Administrative Staff, Outstanding Laboratory Staff, Outstanding Financial Management Staff, Outstanding Librarians, Outstanding Archivists, and Outstanding Security Guard.

It should be our pride that at the national level in 2011, Leo Wibisono Arifin (Faculty of Agricultural Technology) is selected as the First National Outstanding Student outperforming other students from various other universities in Indonesia. A similar accomplishment is achieved by Dr. Ir. Desrial (Head of Mechanical Engineering and Biosystem Department), elected in the first national rank as the Outstanding Head of Study Program. Furthermore, Dr. Ir. Sobir (lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture) is ranked the third as the National Outstanding Lecturer. (Mtd)
