Himakova of IPB Carried out the Inventory of Biodiversity of Kerinci Seblat National Park

A total of 75 (seventy five) students members of the Student Association of Forest Resources Conservation and Ecotourism (Himakova), Faculty of Forestry Bogor Agricultural University carried out their annual routine exploration and expeditions program at the Kerinci Seblat National Park, Jambi. Such environmental and conservation study or in Indonesian usually shortened into SURILI is routinely implemented by the Himakova IPB. The obejctives of 2011 exploration and expeditions program that took place from 26 July to 14 August were to find out the greatness and as well as the exoticism the cluster world heritage behind the richness of its biodiversity as well as the local wisdom of the communities of Kerinci Seblat National Park. This was expressed by the chairman of Surili, Mr. Arya Arismaya Metanda in Jambi, Friday, 12 July 2011.
"This activity is very important for all members Himakova to implement what they have learned and acquired when they have been studying in the campus as well as when they participated the activities of Himakova" he added.
According to him, such activities that have been implemented since 2004 produced important output to increase the ability of students in their field works and induced conservation awareness as early as possible.
In addition, as chairman Himakova, Mr. Nararya Gunadarma, stated that the activity also motivates other students in the entire archipelago to love more and conserve the natural wealth of Indonesia. "I hope this Surili program will produce good output for all parties, not only for students of Bogor Agricultural University, but also will motivate strongly other students to share and preserve the natural wealth of Indonesia" he said.
The Himakova supervisor, Dr. Ir Abdul Haris Mustari, M. Sc. expressed that Surili is important tool to improve the capability of students, both their softskill and hardskill. Surili will be considered important instrument to train and to shape the character of students to be more resilient in implementing their field works and to become a true forester.
"In addition to be beneficial to improve the capabilities and knowledge of students, Surili also beneficial to the Kerinci Seblat National Park, in updating the data on its flora and fauna diversity. The results of this exploration will become accountable report and scientific reference of the national park "he added.
It is expected that Surili activity will be continued to establish the extensive networks, as well as to be instrumental to motivate other student associations, within and outside Bogor Agricultural University in conducting scientific expedition related to their respective scientific fields. (Wied).
