Two IPB University students once again were awarded second place at the VIII Statistics Jamboree 2019 at Mulawarman University, Samarinda, East Kalimantan (21-24/3)/ Both of the students were from the Department of Statistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, which were Ayu Nawang and Silmi Hanifah. Both successfully achieved an award in one of the series of events during the Statistical Analysis Week.

The steps they had to take on their journey to becoming champions were not easy, Ayu and Silmi succeeded to the grand final and had to finish as many as five theory problems and present a presentation of the result of their analysis which they have done during the online preliminaries.

“During the preliminaries, we continuously did consultations with our supervising lecturer. The results of our analysis were presented during the final round on the Return of Assets (ROA) of Conventional Banks,” Ayu explained.

Generally speaking, the data in the cases chosen by Ayu had various variables, among others ROA of Public Conventional Banks, Non Performing Loans (NPL), Current Account Saving Account (CASA) towards Third Party Funds (TPF) of Public Banks, Main Assets towards Risk-Weighted Assets (RWA) of Public Conventional Banks, Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR). Operational Costs and Operational Income (OCOI), Captial Adequacy Ratio (CAR), and Net Interest Margin (NIM). The data was obtained from the Bank of Indonesia data from January 2015 until August 2018.

“From that data, we were asked to analyze the statistics which were fit to give information to the Bank of Indonesia, general description related to the Return of Assets (ROA) Public Conventional Banks, a complete analysis using statistics, and interpretations and suggestions from the results of the analysis,” Ayu added.

Ayu and Silmi suggested doing an increased credit distribution system along with its services, promotional services related to the savings, and easy access features such as mobile banking services or online banking. (AVR)
