IPB University held the Wageningen University and Research (WUR) Open House. In this open house there was a lot of information regarding further studies in Europe and scholarships from WUR, Erasmus+ and GROW Dutch Universities for Indonesia.

Vice Rector of IPB University for Global Connectivity, Collaboration and Alumni Relation, Prof Iskandar Z Siregar said that this open house event was very useful for information on higher education events. He said WUR’s reputation was very good. In the Netherlands, WUR is in first place for learning and is ranked first in the QS World University Ranking by Subject Agriculture and Forestry.

“If you go to the Netherlands later, don’t just go to Amsterdam, take a little trip to Wageningen to enjoy the atmosphere of the campus there and the Research and Development (RnD) industry for large companies built within WUR,” he said.

Prof Iskandar hopes that IPB University alumni who study at WUR can inspire students to further study masters and doctoral studies. He said, there were around 150 million children of productive age in Indonesia who had to be kept busy again through school and further studies at tertiary institutions.

“We continue to support the government’s program for further studies to send Indonesian children to school and later we can return to serve Indonesia again. So later there will be many educational programs from the government with various activities, start from student exchanges, lecturer exchanges and college student exchanges,” he said.

Dutch Education and Culture Attaché, Indonesian Embassy (KBRI), Dr Agus Setiabudi said that the last ten years the Netherlands has become a very attractive place for further studies for Indonesian students. He said the number of students studying further in the Netherlands has increased from year to year.

“Overall, there are 2,000 Indonesian students in the Netherlands. There are 300 students in Wageningen and most of the students there are alumni of IPB University,” he said.

Dr Agus revealed that the Netherlands is attractive because there are many international programs delivered in English that are available on various campuses. One of them is WUR which provides the most international programs. Many international programs in the Netherlands are interesting because the country’s atmosphere and conditions are very safe and friendly for Indonesians.

“This activity is certainly very good for the progress of IPB University and alumni. We are welcome and express our appreciation to the IPB University Alumni Association (HA) in the Netherlands because some of the assignments from the Indonesian Embassy in the Netherlands have been assisted. Hopefully it can provide many benefits, especially for students who want to continue their studies,” he explained. (dr) (IAAS/Hap)
