ITK IPB University Lecturer Invites Young Generation to Care About the Marine Environment

As a form of community service, a team of IPB University lecturers from the Department of Marine Science and Technology (ITK), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) had the opportunity to visit State Senior High School (SMAN) 1 Leuwiliang and SMAN 1 Ciampea, Bogor Regency.
Through the theme 'Introduction to Exploration and Conservation of Marine Resources', IPB University lecturers invite students, the younger generation, to care about the marine environment. In addition, this activity is to encourage the younger generation to be more creative and maximize themselves to be involved in Indonesia's development.
“Our target is the younger generation. As the next generation of the nation, they must care, maintain and protect the environment. In order to create a healthy environment that will certainly be beneficial and passed on to the next generation," said Dr Sri Puji, coordinator of community service activities.
The activity involved dozens of students, dozens of lecturers, alumni and school teachers. The members of the lecturer team this time are Dr Neviaty P Zamani, Dr Nyoman MN Natih, Dr Yuli Naulita, Dr Steven Solikin, Dr Meutia Samira Ismet, Dr Rastina, Endang S Srimariana, MSi, Risti Endriani A, MSi, Riza A Pasaribu, MSi, Nadya Cakasana, MSi and Dea Fauzia Lestari, MSi.
In her presentation, Dr Puji said that in exploring and conserving marine resources, the use of the latest technology such as remote sensing and marine geographic information systems can help optimize these activities.
"Some of the uses of the latest technology include detecting shallow marine habitats, measuring sea surface temperature, measuring bathymetry, modeling coastal habitats and ecology as well as analyzing coastal suitability and vulnerability," she said.
According to Dr Puji, enriching knowledge of this technology will be able to encourage responsible and sustainable exploration of marine living resources.
Dr. Puji admitted that this dedication activity was welcomed and followed by the students, both SMAN 1 Leuwiliang and SMAN 1 Ciampea. One of the representatives of SMAN 1 Ciampea, Mr. Dadang welcomed the good initiative carried out by the team of lecturers from the ITK Department of IPB University. “Thank you for all the knowledge for our students here. Hopefully we can continue to instill a love of the sea for the younger generation," he said.
In this service program, the lecturer team also explained survey equipment and field survey activities, and showed the interest of ITK IPB University students in this theme as their research topic.
