The 8th International conference held by the Indonesian Chemist Association (HKI) is a routine event that brings together chemists from all over Indonesia. The 8thInternational Conference of the Indonesian Chemicals Society titled "Chemistry for Human Welfare" on 6-7 August 2019 was held by the close collaboration between IPB University, specifically the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Biochemistry of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), HKI Java West Java and Banten, the Department of Chemistry of the University of Nusa Bangsa, the Department of Chemistry at Pakuan University, and the Bogor Academy of Chemistry Polytechnic Analysis (AKA).

“IPB University would like to thank HKI for trusting us to be the host in this annual event that brings together 300 participants from all over the country and internationally,” said IPB University Rector, Dr. Arif Satria when giving his welcoming remarks in IPB International Convention Center.

Dr. Arif Satria said that chemistry has a big role in human welfare, as most of our daily needs are produced through chemical processes. "The more items we use, the more chemicals that need to be processed. In the health sector, chemistry is very important especially in the discovery and development of new drugs. Moreover, it can solve the problem of global warming, air, water, and soil pollution which has triggered the development of "Green Chemistry" which is oriented to the process and utilization of environmentally friendly materials," said Dr. Arif.

In the era of “Internet of Things” or Industrial Revolution 4.0, the chemical industry faces challenges in protecting the earth. "We hope this conference will also raise new ideas that will contribute to promoting and improving human welfare. Hopefully the 2019 International Conference of The Indonesian Chemicals Society which involves chemists from within and outside the country will advance the field of chemistry as a basic and applied science. Also formed are many synergistic new collaborations to produce improvements in our health and well-being," explained Dr. Arif.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mohamad Rafi, the Chief Executive of the HKI International Conference conveyed, “This annual event can be an opportunity to meet all chemist in Indonesia and update the knowledge about chemistry,” he added. He also said that this conference invited international speakers from Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan, and Australia. It was done to observe the development of chemistry internationally.
