LPPM IPB Gives Workshop to Tobacco Farmers in Pekalongan Regency

Institute of Research and Community Service of IPB University (LPPM IPB) held a socialization and workshop for tobacco farmers in Pekalongan Regency (23-24/4). The event includes workshop on planting, husbandry, and post-harvest processing methods of tobacco. The workshop is one of the products of partnership between LPPM IPB with the government of Pekalongan Regency, Central Java.
The workshop, which had a theme “Planting Preparation, Environmentally-friendly Plant Disturbing Organisms (OPT) Control Technology, Fertilizing Tobacco Plants, and Post-harvest Management of Tobacco”, was attended by fifty farmers. The event was held in two villages, Tlogopakis and Tlogohendro.
Head of Community Service Program LPPM IPB, Dr. Prayoga Surya Darma said that there are many difficulties on field being faced by farmers. Because of that, an assistance is essential to support farmers who face such problems.
Head of Plantation, Food Security and Agriculture Body of Pekalongan Regency, Ir. Budi Handoyo, M.Si said that tobacco farmers have to be optimistic and serious in cultivating tobacco because the regional government will give required facility and establish partnerships between farmers and companies which need tobacco as a commodity to ensure a stable price and sale. He expected that tobacco farmers could keep the quality of the products so that they can compete in the market. (Ard)
