Two Japanese students, Saori and Natsuko, gave a cooking demonstration, with the theme Japanese Food, they served Onigiri, Japanese Curry and Karage to residents of Bubulak Village, Dramaga, Bogor. This cooking demonstration activity is part of the Japan Indonesia-Service Learning Program Six University Initiative Program (SUIJI SLP) which was held by the Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM) IPB University which was attended by students from IPB, and students from two Japanese universities namely Kagawa University and Kochi University.

Since February 24, SLI SUIJI 2019’s participants have been serving the community in four villages in Bogor, namely Neglasari Village, Sukawening Village, Setugede Village and Bubulak Village. This activity will end on next March 10. Not only the village of Bubulak, students who served in Neglasari Village provided training in making healthy sowing herbs to groups of women farmers and members of Sabilulungan Posdaya.

The training was attended by the Director of the International Program of IPB, Prof. Dr. Iskandar Z Siregar, Head of Community Services in LPPM IPB, Dr. Prayoga Surya Darma, Posdaya Cadre, Wanita Tani Group (KWT), and the head of neighborhood association (RT & RW).

According to Deputy Head of LPPM IPB in the field of Community Service, Prof. Sugeng Heri Suseno, for Sukawening Village and Setugede Sub-District, the training process has just begun.

Prof. Sugeng hopes that SUIJI SLP students should be able to provide clean and healthy examples of living behavior to the village community, starting from harvesting from their own garden to cooking in the kitchen and to the dining table. All must be done well and carefully. “Therefore, processed foods are very important to do by observing and maintaining food hygiene starting from the preparation process to serving so that the food is always clean and hygienic,” said Prof Sugeng.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of Posdaya Sabilulungan, Onasih said that this activity was very beneficial for villagers, especially mothers. Because after training, mothers can immediately practice it in their homes so that it can become a business opportunity in the food sector. “We hope that LPPM IPB can provide more training in making healthy and beneficial food preparations for the community,” said Onasih.
