IPB Communication Bureau Train Public Speaking Students

Tight competition in the world of work needs to be balanced with capable soft skills. One important soft skill is public speaking. Public speaking or speaking in public is not easy if you are not trained continuously. In any work, ranging from employees to entrepreneurs must be able to speak well in public so that information is conveyed properly.
Students of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) Public Relation Sciences (MPIK) under the auspices of the IPB Communication Bureau held a public speaking training together with a professional television and radio broadcaster, Mey Cresentya. The event that carries the tagline "Indonesia Talk Good" was held at the Dramaga IPB Campus, Bogor (6/10) and was attended by 43 participants.
Ir. Yatri Indah Kusumastuti, MS as the coach of MPIK IPB said that there are two types of communication. Namely verbal and nonverbal communication. In addition to mastering verbal communication "A public speaker must also be able to master non-verbal communication, namely expression, and gesture. So, expressive is also important in this matter, "he said.
Mey Cresentya as the speaker started the training by inviting the participants to do introductions one at a time with passionate gestures and intonation. Mey said that a good public speaker must give a good impression in the first 2-3 minutes so that the audience admires him.
"A good public speaking trick is to master yourself, master the material, and master the reaction of the audience. One of the most important is eye contact with the audience, "Mey said.
After doing one-on-one introductions and advising participants on how to carry out a good public speaker, Mey gave several theories related to preparation for public speaking. The preparation is in the form of preparing messages to be delivered, good conversational language such as eye contact, involving emotional dynamics so that the audience is interested, strengthening messages with body language such as typical gestures and expressions, as well as call to action in the form of things that must be prepared before starting the public speaking is relaxed and recognizes the audience.
"Besides that, good public speaking must also raise five elements of S (5S), namely Spirit, Smile, Sweep Audience, Greetings, and Greetings," added Mey. (NIN / Zul)
