Pusat Studi Biofarmaka (PSB Biopharmaca Research Center) of  The Institute of Research and Community Empowerment of IPB (LPPM) , of Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB Bogor Agricultural University) organized the Training Course on  "Pengembangan Metode Finger Print Analysis Berbasis HPLC = Method Development of HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) fingerprinting method based". The course was carried out at the Campus IPB, Taman Kencana, Bogor, on Tuesday, 17 May 2016.

Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Training Course, Dr. Mohammed Rafi, stated that method based on high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is a method for quality control, to determine the quality of medicinal plants which guarantees purity or efficacy results and safety. HPLC-based analysis method enable a comprehensive and reproducible analysis of the complex and voluminous metabolomics data produced by the profiling approach, "he said.

Further, Dr. Rafi stated that in addition to HPLC method there is another method for quality control, it is the method identifier scheme. High-performance liquid chromatography is a technique in analytical chemistry used to separate, identify, and quantify each component in a mixture, thus it enable to analyse whether herbal medicine use of synthetic chemicals (plant exudates) and other natural materials. Currently in Indonesia, he explained, there are several methods identifier scheme which is using only one solvent for comparison purposes to elaborate solubility schemes

It is expected that the course will be applied and accepted by society because this method has been recognized by the WHO and is already widely used by several countries such as China and the United States.

The Training Course was participated by participants from the herbal industry, research institutions, academics and students from various universities in Indonesia. The course was officially opened by the Head of PSB of LPPM IPB, Dr. Irmanida Batubara. (Wied).
