IPB Invited the Indonesian High School Students to Compete in the National Science Festival 2014

The Pesta Sains Nasional (PSN – the National Science Festival) is an annual event organized jointly between the Student Executive Board (BEM) and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA) of IPB, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) with eight sets of professional associations under the FMIPA IPB. The theme of the Pesta Sains Nasional 2014, is the "Science and Arts". With the selection such theme it is expected that the next generation will synergize science and art, that increase the total number of creative scientists who interested in developing science. For opening ceremony of PSN 2014, the West Java (Sundanese) customary procession presented by participants from the Western Part of Indonesia (Aceh) and Eastern Part of Indonesia (Manado) were performed. The PSN 2014 was symbolically opened by the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr Ir. Yonny Koesmaryono, MS.
"The number of participants of PSN is increasing each year. The PSN 2014 was participated by 2140 participants, consisted of 285 accompanying teachers from all over Indonesia, "said Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the PSN (National Science Festival) 2014, Budiarto. The Dean of FMIPA IPB, Dr. Ir. Sri Nurdiati, M.Sc stated, "This event is a national competition to compete the creativity of the students in Indonesia. Such activities deems necessary to explore the potentialities and to improve the ability and concentration of the students to solve problems in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This capability is getting more and ore important in today’s working world. "
"We hope this kind of competition, will improve the ability of students. Important information I’d like inform, all the first winner of each category in the competition will be admitted into IPB without any written tests, of course all terms and conditions of IPB are applicable for them, "added the Dean. Moreover, Prof. Dr Yonny Koesmaryono, stated, "the PSN 2014 is not only a means of social gathering to compete their ability in the sciences, but it is also to show the world that Indonesia could become better. We expect when the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) will be implemented at the end of 2015, we won’t be left behind but will continue to strive due to the demographic bonus (young population) have to develop Indonesia. It you, who will become the foundation of our expectations as the next generation. I hope you will participate this competition in full spirit. Good luck!! And keep the sportsmanship. ".
The competition on PSN activity consisted of (9) nine fields, namely the Junior Statistics Contest (Komstat Jr.), the Meteorological Interactive (Metric), Lomba cepat Tepat Biologi (LCTB – Question & Answer Biological Contest), Chemistry Challenge (CC), Mathematics with Fun (Matematika Ria – MR), Programming Competition (PC), Physics contest (Kompetisi Fisika – KF), Popular Scientific Paper Contest (Lomba Karya Ilmiah Populer – LKIP), and STEM Young Researcher Award. In addition, a series of events are also prepared to support such a major event, such as student seminars, teacher training seminars, and achievement motivation training. (Wied)
