ITK – IPB Urged Youths to Play Important Role for the Dependence on Marine Engineering Indonesia

In the history of Indonesia the youth has played important role as agent of changes. Marine Technology is an important key to revive the glory of Indonesia as the Maritime State. Hence, according to Prof. Dr Indra Jaya, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Sciences Marine (FPIK) IPB, the role of youth and students in the development of marine technology should be improved.
The statement was delivered in the National Seminar organized by the Marine Technology Marine Instrumentation and Telemetry Club (MIT) of the Department of Marine Sciences and Technology (ITK) of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK IPB). This special program was organized at the Alumni Building of IPB, and was attended by more than 150 participants from various groups, on 16 October 2014.
Resource persons invited to the seminar were include Ir. Hugua (Wakatobi Regent), Dr. Rizal Idrus (UNHAS), Dr. Agus Suherman, Dr. David Mc.Kinnie (NOAA), Dr.Victor Zykov (SOI), Dr. Wahyu Widodo Pandoe, M.Sc, (BPPT) and Dr. Henry M. Manik (IPB). Those resource persons presented information on the development of marine technology today and the future. In addition, the seminars also exhibited tools for ocean observation produced by Acoustics and Ocean Instrumentation Unit such as ROV RJBA ITK 2014, MOTIWALI, Data Logger and Ocean Drifter.
On this occasion MIT had launched the results of Student Expedition in Wakatobi. The objectives of expedition were to uncover information on the uniqueness of Wakatobi waters. Ir. Hugua welcomed IPB students, and expected that they will retain to confirm that Wakatobi will become the centre of the world triangle, to preserve biosfer, the underwater laboratory, biotech development of seaweed, the development of underwater research centre, maximize the function of marine engineering, technology radar. Similar statement were expressed by Chairman of Wakatobi National Park. (Wied).
