Pertamina, VIVA and the Vocational School Communication Study Program (SV) of Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) collaborated to hold an event themde “Millenials Fight Hoax with Pertamina” at Baranangsiang Campus of IPB, Bogor (4/4).

This event included Talkshow, Digital-Forensic Hoax Workshop, VIVA Top 3 Host Challenge, and Job Fair. Present were some speakers which were; the Media Communication Manager of Pertamina, Arya Dwi Paramita; Head of the Dissemination Section of the Polri’s Public Relations Division, the Commissioner, Heru Yulianto; and the Dean of the Vocational School of IPB, Dr. Arief Darjanto.

According to Dr. Arief Darjanto, hoaxes is a negative energy for this nation that must be fought together.

“Young people, especially students, must be agile to combat hoax. Especially before the 2019 Election, there are many hoaxes circulating in the community, “said Dr. Arief in front of 234 students of IPB Vocational School Communication Study Program.

Dr. Arief invited students to build a movement called Anti-Hoax Students for Indonesia or abbreviated as ‘MAHIR’ as a concrete effort from the Vocational School of IPB to fight hoaxes.

According to him the proverb “your mouth is your tiger” is irrelevant in today’s context, because now it has changed to “your fingers are your tiger”. Because now we can easily find anyone who can spread news that is not true through social media. In his presentation, Dr. Arief shows some of the most commonly found forms of hoaxes in the form of writing, pictures, then videos.

“Most hoaxes are spread on social media with political issues being the highest type of hoax. Young people’s emotions are not stable and easily provoked. They act based on impulses and this is an easy target for those who have a bad interest. So, my advice is, we must start applying the principle of thinking before posting and filtering before sharing so that we can deflect hoaxes in an agile manner, “he said.

Also attending was the Editor in Chief of VIVA, Maryadi who appreciated the many students who enthusiastically participated in this event. He considered this was proof that students still had the concern to fight hoaxes.

The event ended with the VIVA Anti Hoax Declaration with IPB Vocational School Communication Study Program students.
