Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2020 shows that milk consumption among Indonesians is only around 16,27 kg per capita per year. This figure is relatively low compared to other Southeast Asian countries.

Teenagers, particularly college students, are among those who consume the least amount of milk. The relatively high price and lack of appealing flavor varieties are often the main reasons why milk has not become the primary choice for students in meeting their daily nutritional needs.

Amid this situation, a group of animal science students from IPB University is stepping up to offer a creative solution. They are working to change the perception that healthy drinks don’t have to be boring through their Moonyonyo Milk brand.

Faiq Ayyasy Nafis, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Susu Moonyonyo, explained that the product currently under development is a nutritious fresh cow’s milk product priced to be affordable for students. Susu Moonyonyo offers a combination of the nutritional benefits of pure milk with flavor profiles that appeal to the student market.

“Moonyonyo Milk is an innovative dairy product. We produce milk that is nutritious and, of course, affordable for students,” said Faiq, who is also a student in the Department of Animal Product Technology at IPB University.

Although the price is low, quality remains a priority. Moonyonyo Milk uses fresh milk sourced directly from the IPB University Faculty of Animal Science’s dairy farm. The processing is carried out independently by a team of students using pasteurization methods.

“We pasteurize and process the fresh milk ourselves, and then add innovative flavors. Currently, customers can enjoy plain, chocolate, and chocolate and cookie flavors in 200 ml cups. The original variant is priced at Rp8.000, while the flavored ones are Rp9.000,” said Nur Afni Damayanti, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of Susu Moonyonyo.

Moonyonyo Milk was born from a project by the Creative Economy Division of the IPB University Animal Production Student Association (Himaproter), which has been running for two years. This venture is also currently participating in the Student Entrepreneurship Program (PMW).

“We joined the PMW because we see the benefits it offers, such as funding and training to enhance our product branding. Our hope is that it will be recognized not only within the Faculty of Animal Science but also across IPB University,” said Nur Afni. (MHT) (IAAS/HNY)
