IPB is Ready to Educate Santri from 80 Islamic Boarding Schools in Pekalongan to Become Santripreneur

Early February 2019, Stasiun Lapang Agro Kreatif (SLAK), a result of partnership between Pekalongan regional government and Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), will be launched. The programs that will be carried out by SLAK include empowerment of durian farmers, livestock farmers, and santripreneur.

“Pekalongan is expected to be the pioneer of santripreneur and will be developed completely. In Pekalongan, there are many santri (Islamic boarding school students). The santri are expected to be economically independent, for it will strengthen their dakwah (preaching). The plan is that from 80 Islamic boarding schools in Pekalongan, some that have agriculture basis will be chosen. We also express our gratitude to IPB. The partnership with IPB has brought empowerment to our farmers. The durian farmers are very much assisted by IPB,” said the Regent of Pekalongan, Asif Kholbihi, SH, MS when he visited IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor (9/1).

Meanwhile, IPB Rector, Dr. Arif Satria said that Pekalongan is known by the city of santri. The santri need to be equipped with entrepreneurship with a focus on agriculture. The development of santripreneur will be something appropriate in Pekalongan. “Moreover, santripreneur program has been launched by the Ministry of Economics. Besides that we will develop the partnership relating to IPB innovation central that will be distributed in Pekalongan. There are many innovations, especially superior seeds that have to be developed in Pekalongan. Pekalongan Regency will be IPB’s field laboratory, so that the implementation of innovations can be done will on field. With this partnership we will be able to give a feedback to IPB. We will also develop community service (KKN) and farming school (SPR) there,” he said.

On the same occasion, Vice Chairman of Community Sercie, Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) IPB, Prof. Dr. Sugeng Heri Suseno said that previously IPB has deployed students for IPB Goes to Field (IGTF) program at 2018. “IGTF Pekalongan focused on durian farming and in the future IPB will carry out four main programs, which are plant health promotion, packaging of processed food, tea, coffee, clove, and SPR program,” he said.
