Vocational School (SV) Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) held a “The Implementation of Lean Management Strategies” workshop in IPB International Convention Center (IICC), IPB Baranangsiang Campus, Bogor (24/10). This event was expected to enhance the skills of Sall lecturers across the faculties and departments in IPB, especially SV IPB lecturers.

This event aimed to share the knowledge in lean management strategies to academicians from the departments, faculties, and other campuses.

“This is one of the efforts to prepare the D4 Vocational program curriculum for the Industrial Management Study Program. Aside from that, this event also aims to strengthen the planning of Industrial Management Study Program of Vocational School curriculum regarding the education system change. The change will require the study period to extend to 4 years (Diploma 4) from 3 years (Diploma 3) for applied science programs. Vocational School IPB will continue applying the 3-2-1 pattern that has become the important distinction of vocational education. The 3-2-1 pattern describes 3 semesters at class, 2 semesters in the industry, and 1 semester to write the final thesis,” said the Head of Industrial Management Study Program of IPB Vocational School, Ir. Pramono D. Fewidarto, MS.

He added that the 3-2-1 pattern became an important feature of vocational education to produce skilled graduates in the industry and society, thus the society believed that vocational education was very important for the young generation to keep achieving and building the nation.

“As we know, the curriculum is composed of teaching materials and the experiences that are needed for the achievement of educational goals including in the Industrial Management Program of the Vocational School of IPB. The demands to fulfil that makes the curriculum planner experiences difficulties in composing and planning the relevant content to suit the learning outcomes. The difficulties are the changes in every aspect that is developing every time,” he said.

The changes were driven by the always-changing society and new arising problems. Besides that, there are also several differences and changes in interest, needs, and problems being faced by students. Many changes in social, economic, culture, politics, and others also influenced the relevancy of the curriculum.

According to him, this was also caused by the stricter competitions, those who excelled are ones that won and powerful. Thus, vocational education was required to always develop its learning curriculum.

“The formation of an ideal and accurate curriculum is very much needed for the students to keep up with the progress and intellectual challenges,” he said.

Prof. Yandra Arkeman, a professor from the Department of Agroindustrial Technology, Faculty of Agricultural Technology IPB also added that this event was a form of academic anticipation in improving the competitiveness of student in the global industry.

Meanwhile, Dr. Doni Yusri, a lecturer from Industrial Management Study Program conveyed that the development of curriculum for Vocational School IPB from three years to four years study period, especially for Industrial Management Study Program, had to be associated with the partnerships with the industries. The curriculum for the study program had to implement the pattern of 40% for class lecture, 40% for the practice in the industry or company, and the other 20% for writing the final thesis, so at the end, the graduate of vocational school would be ready to enter the job market which had a competitive atmosphere to be able to get a job in the industry.

Presence as a speaker was Dr. Gerald Beykirch, an expert in curriculum from Senior Experten Service (SES) Expert, Germany. In the academic side, he explained and showed the impact of implementing the augmented reality technology to process data as a tool in decision-making. This was projected to be an innovation in learning process media with the conventional method (slide) and used to complement the learning process itself in order to give understanding to the students regarding the learning material.

“Becoming an actor in the industry is a job that I really enjoy because I can make changes, invest, and see the result. So, I can make a sustainable progress,” he said.

This event was also attended by the representative from several study programs of Vocational School IPB and other universities in Bogor like Pakuan University and Djuanda University. (CN)
