Center for Islamic Business and Economic Studies (CI-BEST) is one of the centres under the Institute for Research and Community Service of Bogor Agricultural University (LPPM IPB). The Centre was established based on the Rector Decree no. IPB. 147 / I3 / OT / 2011 on 4 October 2011. CI-BEST scope covers shariah economy, syariah monetary economy, optimization of zakat utilization, infaq, shodaqoh and waqaf (ZISWAF), shariah business management covering syariah micro finance, business ethics syariah, shariah management application and development, shariah entrepreneur development, halal product in the form of halal food as well as medicine and cosmetics, shariah policy in the form of study and advocacy of sharia public policy and positive law study and sharia law, empowering sharia community in the form of assistance and empowerment of syariah based community potential, sharia technoeconomics.

Head of CI-BEST IPB, Dr. Irfan Syauqi Beik, stated that the existence of this centre is very important to support the implementation of Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi, especially aspects of research and community service. One of the breakthroughs made by CI-BEST is to develop CIBEST Model as one of the tools of welfare and poverty based on shariah, which was developed by Beik and Arsyianti.

The CIBEST model consisted of welfare index, material poverty index, spiritual poverty index and absolute poverty index. This CIBEST welfare index has even been adopted as part of the National Zakat Index (IZN) officially used by the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) as a tool to measure the impact of zalcat distribution on the condition of the poor assisted by zakat funds.

CIBEST's vision is to become a centre of world class study in business and economy development based on syariah as well as sharia-based policies with major competencies in agriculture in a broad sense. The variety of activities is to increase the intensity and quality of research as the basis for developing and applying syariah-based business and economic  concepts, developing educational, training and mentoring programs that support the implementation of syariah-based business development and economics, conducting thematic studies for the development of thinking related to the implementation of business concepts and Sharia-based economies, and disseminates and promotes the results of Shariah-compliant research and business concepts to the community, especially to policy makers.
