OMI: The Largest Annual Sports Event in IPB
Rector of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto officially opened the Student Olympiad of IPB (OMI) 2017, Saturday (21/4) in the Gymnasium of Dramaga campus, Bogor. This is the biggest annual sport event held in IPB. This 10th OMI of IPB raises the theme “Hold Sportivity, Melt Differences".
OMI will last from April 22 to May 19, 2017 at IPB's Gymnasium, IPB's Old Sport Building, the Field of IPB's Stadium Gelora, Jannes Humuntal Hutasoit Auditorium, Faculty of Animal Husbandry (Fapet) IPB, and Swimming Pool of the Padjajaran Sport Building, Bogor.
Executive Chairman of OMI 2017, Reza Mahlevi said this event aims to channel the interests and talents of students in sports, brotherhood and togetherness of all IPB's students through sport competition, foster the spirit of sportsmanship in individual students and teams. "The resulted best athletes will represent IPB in the National Student Olympiad Week," he said.
He said that this year OMI stages 11 branches of sports participated by nine Faculties, General Competence Education Program (PPKU), Diploma, and Business School to win 38 golds, 38 silvers and 58 bronzes. The sports branch includes football, futsal, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, tennis, badminton, chess, aerobics, athletics, and men's swimming. For the first time in OMI 2017 there is an addition to the sports branch, that is, women's swimming.
Rector encourages the participants to make OMI as an event of achievement, to knit togetherness, unity and strengthen friendship among IPB's students. "For these reasons, Try to be a special athlete of pride who upholds the values of sportsmanship and honesty, especially not damage the OMI 2017 with disgraceful actions and behavior," he said.
Meanwhile, President of the IPB Student Executive Board of Student Family (BEM KM), Panji Laksono said this OMI activity is a form of unity and togetherness among IPB's students. It is also an arena or means to improve IPB students' sports achievements toward the Indonesia Student Olympiad in 2017.
