Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of Institut Pertanian Bogor (FPIK – IPB) and Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Research (CCMRS) Institute for Research and Community Service, Bogor Agricultural University (LPPM-IPB) organized the International Seminar for The Society for Coastal Ecosystems Studies – Asia Pacific (SCESAP) at the FPIK IPB Campus, Dramaga, Bogor, on 20-21 July 2016. The seminar was supported by RARE, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Environmental Research Center (PPLH LPPM-IPB). The objectives of the Annual Scientific Meeting is to present research results and to provide media for exchange of information for scientists, students or businessmen on marine ecosystem and coastal environment in the Asia Pacific.
 
Dean of FPIK IPB, Dr. Luky Adrianto, stated that marine biodiversity for coastal communities must be supported by the four important elements, namely: 1. Protection and preservation of marine biodiversity; 2. Appropriate management policies to support biodiversity; 3. The development of fisheries and marine biotechnology; and 4. Conservation of coastal ecosystems and its habitats. 
 
Yet, Vice Rector for Research and Cooperation, Prof. Anas Miftah Fauzi, presented his presentation on the processing of sustainable marine ecosystems, especially in coastal communities to improve the life patterns of the coastal communities. "The only goal of the program is to support the coastal communities to improve their ability to achieve national goals for sustainable management of coastal resources and to be prosperous communities," he explained.
 
Resource persons and speakers for the meeting were: Dr. Alan White, of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID); Dr. Luky Adrianto, Dean FPIK IPB; Dr. Sri Fatmawati, of the Institute of Technology Surabaya (ITS), and Dr. Ario Damar, Head of IPB CCMRS. The participants were from Japan (Kyushu University and University of the Ryukyus), China, (Xiamen University), as well as various universities and NGOs in Indonesia. (Wied)
