30 Mine Companies Participated the Training Program on Mine Reclamation

About 30 mining companies from all over Indonesia participating  the training program on "Mine Land Reclamation Technology to Support the Green Mining" held by the Center for Mine Reclamation of  Bogor Agricultural University  (PSRT), on Monday,  21 November 2011, at the IPB International Convention Center (IICC), Baranangsiang  Campus, Bogor.

Some of these companies were PT Antam Tbk, PT Timah, PT Inco, PT Berau Coal, PT Kaltim Prima Coal, PT Adaro Indonesia and others. "Indonesia has a lot of mining companies, that operate on  coal, minerals and oil mining. In the field, some  companies implemented  the  reclamation program well, some practiced but not according to the standard, and some are not implementing the reclaiming areas, "said Head Center of Mine Reclamation Bogor Agricultural University, Dr. Iskandar, in the  training program.

According to him in the training program, the mining companies will be trained to utilize the right methods or appropriate technology to reclaim the mined lands. "We will train and increase their insight  on  how to improve soil fertility, to select suitable plants that fit to the mined lands, and also how to make compost," he said. He stated that  PSRT is the consultant for those companies, which provides advice and find solutions to problems encountered by mining companies in the reclamation of mined lands.

"We do not practice the reclamation directly, but we provide consultation or coaching to the problems faced by those companies in the reclamation programs," he said. After the termination of the training program, according Iskandar, the participants were given opportunities to have a fieldtrip to PT Antam Pongkor, in Bogor Regency. (Wied).
