In order to provide education about stunting, several students of the Food and Nutrition Service Industry Management Study Program (MIJMG) Vocational School of IPB University held a counselling session (13/3) entitled 'The Importance of Nutrition in the First 1,000 Days to Prevent Stunting in Children in Cibening Village, Pamijahan District, Regency Bogor'.

"The West Bogor area is still the highest area for cases of pure malnutrition, stunting and congenital diseases. Apart from the poverty factor, this can also be caused by an unhealthy lifestyle. Conditions in Pamijahan District, especially Cibening Village, currently there are 30 stunted children and 102 children with poor nutritional status," said Dr RA Hangesti Emi Widyasari when giving counselling.

The IPB University Vocational School lecturer explained, stunting is the most common condition of a form of chronic malnutrition that affects the first 1,000 days of a baby during fetal growth in the womb until after birth.

According to her, stunting in children under three years of age (toddlers) is an indicator of chronic nutritional status which can provide an overview of disturbances in overall socio-economic conditions in the past and in the first two years of a child's life. "This certainly has an impact that is difficult to repair. Socio-economic factors that affect stunting include parents' economic status and family food security," she added.

The event was attended by at least 60 participants. It consists of the Head of Cibening Village, Parihudin SPd along with village officials, Fitria Andriani, STr Kebid, integrated service post (posyandu) cadres, pregnant and breastfeeding women and children affected by stunting and malnutrition.

Furthermore, this activity was accompanied by cooking demonstrations and consultations. The enthusiasm of the residents of Cibening Village in participating in this counselling was very high and full of enthusiasm. "It is hoped that the implementation of this counseling can increase the knowledge of Cibening Village residents and can minimize the occurrence of stunting in the future," he said. (*/Rz) (IAAS/MFR)
