To support the attempt to increase of publication, especially in Vocational School (SV) IPB University, Directorate of Scientific Publication and Strategic Information (DPIS) IPB University conducted the Scientific Article Writing Workshop batch 7 in Baranangsiang Campus, Bogor (30/7). The workshop was attended by SV lecturers who just received the National Lecturers ID Number (NIDN). After possessing the NIDN, lecturers are obliged to write scientific articles in national or international journals.

According to Sudarsono, a professor of IPB University, the speaker in this event, scientific society in Indonesia seldom write scientific publications, even though every scientific activity has to be completed with a scientific article.

“Every scientific activity is considered done after writing one scientific article. The obligation of the scientific society is to write scientific publications. We have to write scientific publications because we are lecturers. For those who want to be head lecturers, they have to fulfil the prerequisite to publish an international journal. Those who want to attain the highest functional title, the prerequisite is also to publish a journal, be it in national or international scale. Whether you want it or not, we have to write publications,” he said.

The other speaker in said event was Dr Anuraga Jayanegara, who shared the strategies to publish a scientific writing (in national or international scale).

The Director of Scientific Publication and Strategic Information (DPIS) of IPB University, Dr Ir Eva Anggraeni, said that this year DPIS had a training in seven batches, both in exact sciences and social/economics. Each training’s participants are limited to 35 people.

Besides having workshops, DPIS also provides other service, which is online course nature master class. This online course is designed to help addressing lecturers’ and students’ difficulty in finding a spare time.

“The online course is helping lecturers and students to increase their understanding about scientific publications. So, we hope that the online course can be utilized well. There are 15 modules available in online course, from the basics to how to publish articles in journals with high reputation,” he said.

As an attempt to increase scientific publication, another program planned in this August by DPIS is Publicamp 2019. The program is planned to accelerate the completion of scientific articles in one place by involving internal reviewers to give direct inputs.

“We hope that in the next month, the articles could be submitted. We limit the participants of this event to 20 people at maximum. This will be the first time we have such program. The program is initiated because there are many lecturers who have scientific article drafts in a long period of time, while they only need a short time to finish the articles for submission. The Publicamp is planned to be conducted for four days, consisting an independent working time and review time in certain sessions. We hope that Publicamp can accelerate paper publications from lecturers and students,” Dr Eva added. (Ard)
