The Pesticide Industry is the Support of Indonesian Agriculture
The food problem is now a serious problem that must be solved by the global community. Not only done by farmers and the government, but agricultural industry activists are also required to contribute to solving these food problems.
Therefore, the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM), IPB University held a national seminar with the theme “The Role of the Pesticide Industry in the National Economy”. The seminar, which was held on Monday (25/3) at the IPB International Convention Center, Bogor, discussed the role of the pesticide industry in advancing agriculture in Indonesia.
“Pesticides play an important role in the agricultural industry. Why? Because pesticides have an important role in increasing productivity and production which will eventually lead to an increase as an economic driver, “said Dr. Ir. Drajat Martianto, M.Sc., Vice Chancellor for Education and Student Affairs, IPB.
Related to the use of pesticides in relation to the global food security index, Dr. Drajat stressed that the use of pesticides in agriculture can be done wisely. He also stressed that the application of pesticides can be carried out correctly, both the exact type and size.
“The most important thing in the application of pesticides is to follow the rules and dosages set by the pesticide company. But because it is being misguided, many people are afraid of poisons in pesticides, “Dr. Drajat.
Even though the community has a bad view of pesticides, Dr. Drajat is optimistic that pesticides have an important role in improving the national economy. Because the future food needs will increase while the problems in the food sector will also increase such as the problem of climate change, land use change, natural disasters and plant pests and diseases.
Until now, the pesticide industry has a role not only in agriculture but also in industry. In the field of agriculture itself, the pesticide industry has a role in increasing productivity and production of agricultural products, suppressing populations and attacks on pests and plant diseases, and improving the quality of agricultural products. Whereas in the industrial sector, the pesticide industry has a role in the flow of exports and imports of chemicals.
“Indeed, the pesticide industry does not play a direct role in improving the national economy, but the pesticide industry has helped in increasing agricultural production on a large scale,” said Ir.
