Menristekdikti Do Not Want to Set The Curriculum of Colleges
The Ministries Of Research, Technology, And Higher Education Republic Of Indonesia (Menristekdikti RI) do not want to set the curriculum of colleges. “We permits colleges to set their curriculum so their uniqueness can be seen” said The Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, Prof. Muhammad Nasir when became Keynote Speaker in Academic Workshop I: Re-orientation of Curriculum of IPB to Face Industrial Era 4.0, Monday (4/5) at Dramaga Campus, Bogor Agricultural University.
Furthermore, Prof. Nasir conveyed the new policy about higher education curriculum and industrial era 4.0 competences in Indonesia.
“The growing importance of social skill urges Indonesia to improve the quality of workforce skills with digital technology. To be relevant with 4.0, it is important to look back the existed system, curriculum become adaptive and flexible system. Nowadays, most of companies are using technology to sell their products online. The emerging of new technology has caused the tremendous changes across all disciplines, economic and industry. What to do now is the importance of proficiency in skills is increasingly needed, so we have to move fast,” explained Prof. Nasir.
According to Prof. Nasir, currently the unemployed university graduates is 8.8 percent from total unemployment in Indonesia which is 7 millions people. In recent condition, we are dealing with many industries that need work force, but universities are incapable to supply those needs, because their education curriculum is not compatible with what the work need, so there should be nomenclature.
Other than that, the relevancy of education and employment, it needs to be adjusted with the development of era as well as science and technology while still paying attention to humanist aspect. Job market demands the combination of various skills that different from what higher education system has been provided.
Prof. Nasir conveyed that 75 percent of jobs involving science, technology, engineering, math skill, data science, coding, and lifelong learning. “Lifelong learning, so we can adapt with the development of science and technology and the work life.”
In line with that delivered by Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Rector of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria stated that IPB will conduct the adjustment of study programs, re-evaluate the relevance of existed programs and initiate new study programs according to the current trends.
“In responding to society demand, IPB has opened across departments study programs and new progressive, responsive study programs following current development, as the already exists: Livestock Logistic and Village Mapping Vocational program.”
Rector of IPB added that this year target is there will be ten online courses in IPB. Attend other speakers include: Deputy Staff of The President, Dr. Yanwar Nugroho, Rector of Open University, Dr. Ojat Darojat, Chairman of The Academic Senate of IPB, Prof. Dr. Tridoyo Kusumastanto, CEO of General Electric Indonesia who is also alumnus of IPC, Handry Santriago.
In this Workshop, also was held the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Rector of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria, and Rector of Open University, Dr. Ojat Darojat. (qa)
