Faculty of Animal Husbandry of Bogor Agricultural University (FAPET IPB) in cooperation with the Forum Logistik Peternakan Indonesia (FLPI Indonesian Livestock Logistics Forum) organized the Indonesian Livestock Logistics Training, at the FAPET IPB Meeting Room, IPB Campus, Dramaga, Bogor, on 8 February 2018.  The theme of the Training Course is "Research Methodology of Logistics of Animal Husbandry". The training  course was supported by Animal Logistics (ALIN), Nuffic and The Maastricht School of Management (MSM).

The Dean of FAPET IPB, Dr. Moh. Yamin, said that the objectives of the training course were to provide lecturers, students and researchers of IPB, as well as the communities who are interested in livestock logistics on the current development of this field. "In addition, the training course is also to improve the capacity of lecturers, students and researchers to enable them carry out the quality and quantity of research in the field of livestock logistics better," he said.

Dr. Yamin said, FAPET IPB has been developing a livestock logistics program for several years. However, realizing the importance of the logistics program, it is finally promoted into IPB level. The increased level will enable the Graduate Logistics of Animal Husbandry Program to be enlarged at the level of agricultural logistics with various interests in the future. To that end, he explained, FAPET IPB prepares to open Postgraduate Program on Logistics of Animal Husbandry. Thus, it is expected that the development of livestock logistics will be implemented base on the research program carried out by FAPET IPB.

He added that livestock logistics is a multidisciplinary field in agricultural and veterinary sciences that meets the logistics of cooling chain technology, economy, and distribution technologies. Logistics here implies that a number of separate activities are coordinated. Logistics, in business, the organized movement of materials and, sometimes, people. The term was first associated with the military but gradually spread to cover business activities. Thus, livestock logistics is areas of a broader context such as animal welfare, food security, food quality, competitiveness and public health require knowledge of the domain of the sciences.

Further Dr. Yamin explained, FAPET IPB has started an education program in livestock logistics. Therefore, in the framework of developing and maintaining the competence oriented educational program, it is necessary to connect the lecturers and students with things that are practical through research. They will contribute to theb development of the field.

Yet, Chairman of FLPI, Prof. Dr. Luki Abdullah, said that FLPI will be the forum for cooperation between academicians, government, business and farmer community in the field of livestock logistics. "IPB considers the importance of methodology for livestock logistics research program, so they need to be developed more widely. As livestock logistics, is relatively new in the context of animal husbandry," he explained.

Prof. Luki expected that participants of the training course  will be able to implement their expertise in applying science and technology on livestock logistics. They also expected to improve their cooperation in the management, and implement strategic decisions on livestock logistics.
