Dr. Cahyo Wibowo, Facylty Member of IPB Whose Hobby is Planting Trees at the Corners of Campus
Dr. Cahyo Wibowo, M.Sc F.Trop is the faculty member of the Faculty of Forestry of Bogor Agricultural University (FAHUTAN IPB) who has been serving for the university since 1986. He has been the Director of Gunung Walat Educational Forest (HPGW) of FAHUTAN IPB. He was also entrusted to be the Local Expert for the Korea International Corporation Agency (KOICA) project in 2006-2008 in collaboration with the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia.
His friends, familiarly called Mr. Cahyo, has been actively performing community service activities for Surveys of Soil Science and Hydrology and Silviculture for the company and government. He often provided counseling aand extension services for the community with together students about the forest and the importance of planting trees.
After had been graduated from the undergraduate degree program of IPB, he was appointed as lecturer for IPB. Then he pursued his master degree program (S2) at Gottingen University, Germany, and his doctoral degree program at IPB. For his dedication for more than 20 years of services for IPB, he was granted the Satyalencana Karya Satya Award.
After had been graduated for his master degree program (S2), very often he supervised students to do their practical works. Since then he was known to be a firm and disciplined figure in educating. He wanted his students he supervised really impressed by everything he did. "It certainly a pride when what we’ve cultivated is growing and useful for others. It was due to the cultivating methods we utilized was not the regular methods but tailored made one. However, the most important of all will be the follow-up actions he management of those crops. Analogue with the system, the important thing is to nurture and cultivate a love of learning to cultivate plants, rather than just teaching the techniques of plant cultivations, "he said.
The special figure who was born in 1960 has an unusual hobby, namely planting trees in the less green areas of campus. The selection of plants is adapted to the condition of the location and the available seedlings in his private nursery seedlings at his house.
"For me planting trees is my hobby and also sport. I also invite my students I supervise to take care of the seedlings I planted. Students do not hesitate to plant, "he said. (Wied)
