Halal Science Center of Institute of Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB Bogor Agricultural University) in collaboration with the Directorate for Research and Innovation (DRI) and Directorate of Strategic Studies and Policy (KSKP) of IPB organized the National Seminar on Halal 2016, on Tuesday, 16 February 2016, at IPB International Convention Center (IICC), Bogor. The main agenda of the seminar this year was the strengthening of the network and unity on "Autentikasi dan Manajemen Produk Halal = the Authentication and Management of Halal Products".
 
Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Dr. Nurilmala Mala, said that the objective of the seminar aims to harmonize stakeholders for halal products. It is expected that the seminar will assures observant Muslims that the halal labelled food or drink they consume  complies with their religious rules. "The general  public, especially the Muslims, will recognize that food and drink has been subjected to approved certification systems which guarantee to consumers that nothing in the food has any forbidden components," explained  the lecturer of the Department of Aquatic Product Technology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of IPB (FPIK IPB).
 
Vice Rector of Research and Cooperation of IPB, Prof. Dr. Anas Miftah Fauzi, said that IPB is very committed to assist the halal certification process carried out by Lembaga Pengkajian Pangan Obat-obatan dan Kosmetika Majelis Ulama Indonesia (LPPOM-MUI the Research Institute for Food Drugs and Cosmetics of the Indonesian Ulema Council) by providing human resources as experts and auditors, laboratory facilities and offices. As stated in the Memorandum of Understanding between the Rector of IPB with Chairman of the MUI, in the establishment of LPPOM MUI.
 
"IPB produce graduates who are competent in the field of authentication and management of halal particular field of sharia. IPB also offers several subjects on halal food and its management. Moreover, the University has also established the Halal Science Center of IPB, and Development Research Center for Shariah,  and Department of Shariah and Economics, "he added.
 
Meanwhile, Head of Halal Science Center IPB, Prof. Dr. Tun Tedja Irawadi, stated that the seminar was to unite and to strengthen the ties among the Islamic institutions which are competent for halal products in Indonesia. The Keynote Speaker for the seminar was the Director General for Strengthening Research and Development of the Ministry Ristekdikti RI, Ir. Prakoso, M.M.
 
Furthermore, for the presentation and discussion session the Organizing Committee invited keynote speakers as follows, Dr. Zainal Alim Mas’ud (Lecturer of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences IPB); Prof.Dr. Slamet Ibrahim of Institut Teknologi Bandung; Prof.Dr. Abdul Rohman of Gadjah Mada University; and Prof. Sukoso of Brawijaya University. The discussion was hosted by Dr. Anton Apriyantono, food experts of IPB. (Wied)
