Lecturer of Department of Marine Science and Technology (ITK), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Dr. Hawis Madduppa, conducted a research visit to Study Center for Biology and Chemical Marine Environment (Institutfuer Chemie und Biologie des Meeres – ICBM) of University of Oldenburg Germany on 14-27 September 2015. This visit was accepted by Prof. Dr. Peter Schupp, as the fellow researcher of Dr. Hawis, in the research framework of International Cooperation and International Publication funded by Director General of DIKTI 2015 entitled “Counteracting Loss of Biotechnological Resources & Ecosystem Functions caused by potentially Climate Change-driven Sponge Invasions into Indonesian Coral Reefs”.
“During the visit, we solidify the research analysis and also the publication plan, as well as learn some analysis techniques and be trained using some equipment owned by ICBM,” said Dr. Hawis. “The process of transfer of technology and science can run through the academic exchange and the research cooperation between international institutions,” he added.
Dr. Hawis also gave a short lecture to undergraduate students of Study Program of Biology and Environment of University of Oldenburg. As a further step, Prof.Dr. Peter Schupp visited to IPB and would be involved in EMBRIO of Field Convention Trip and Workshop which would be held in Tunda Island and Pari Island on 3-9 October 2015.
During a research visit in Germany, Dr. Hawis also conducted the maturation of research with Dr. Sonia Bonjarno from Tropical Ecology Study Center (ZMT) of Bremen, who was also the fellow researcher to the research framework of “Contributing to Coral Commons” in Indonesia, which would be implemented in 2016. Besides that, Dr. Hawis also already explored the research cooperation with Prof. Stevan from Ruhr-University Bochum which would collaborate to examine Flashlight Fish Population Genetics in Indonesia.***
