The spirit of the Lamongan people farmers looks extraordinary. This was expressed in the First Working Meeting of the Lamongan Farmers Association (Pagupela) in Pacet Mojokerto (23-24 / 11). The meeting which was held for the first time was led by Mohammad Nuryanto, a resident of Sukorame, Lamongan Regency. The event was attended by elements of the district government, elements of tertiary institutions (IPB University), elements of the Sociobusiness Community from Kediri and breeders, with a total attendance of around 60 people.

Lamongan breeders want to learn from the activities of the IPB University People's Animal Husbandry School (SPR) which has been running since 2014. They see and get news that farmers in Bojonegoro who participated in participatory learning through SPR underwent many fundamental changes in their mindsets and collective business perspectives. They believe that Lamongan breeders can be like that if given a good understanding through the SPR.

Pagulepa, which has participated in animal husbandry training from the local Animal Husbandry Department, has a desire to become the forerunner to the establishment of SPR in Lamongan Regency. They formed the community as the beginning of a desire to be able to change like their neighbor breeders in Bojonegoro. Breeders believe that only the unity, cohesiveness and militancy of the farmers is what makes them strong. The Head of the Livestock Division of the Lamongan Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Service also agreed on the need for the establishment of the SPR in Lamongan.

In this event, present Prof. Muladno, Professor of IPB University as well as the originator of SPR, gave an overview of SPR. Prof. Muladno assured farmers that the benefits of participating in participatory learning in the SPR. To date, there have been 39 SPR spread across 22 Regencies in 11 Provinces.

According to a member of the socio-business community from Kediri who is also the central board of the Indonesian SPR Alumni Solidarity Association, SPR has been proven to have changed the mindset of farmers in their attitudes and actions. Farmers are very easy to think forward and are eager to change to a more professional direction.

Drh Suparto as the national champion of the Bachelor in Village Development (SMD) program and drh Wahyu, animal health practitioners also shared their experiences. Both of them hoped that the SPR could be implemented immediately in Lamongan.

"We suggest that farmers be able to communicate this proposal with members of the Lamongan DPRD to gain political support. However SPR is the basic needs of farmers who want to advance and continue to develop," said Drh Suparto. (NR)
