IPB University Gives Direction to New Students of Sukabumi Vocational School

Entering the academic year 2019/2020, new students of the Vocational School of IPB University, Sukabumi Campus, received direction from the Vice Chancellor for Education and Student Affairs Dr. Drajat Martianto. The direction was given to the Studium Generale activities in the series of Introduction to New Student Campuses (MPKMB), Sunday (25/8) in the new building of Sukabumi Campus.

There are at least 200 new students participating in the MPKMB activities in 2019. There are six study programs held at the Sukabumi Vocational School, namely Ecotourism, Seed Industry Technology, Production Technology and Aquaculture Fisheries Management, Communication, Agribusiness Management and Animal Technology and Management.

In this public lecture, Dr. Drajat Martianto gave directions to students to prepare themselves to be able to face the current era of disruption. "Now we are entering an era of disruption in which there are VUCAs, namely Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity," he said.

He also revealed that competing skills are needed to face the current era of disruption. The skills in question are complex problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, people management, coordinating with others and good negotiation skills. On the other hand, to deal with current development trends, emotional intelligence, good management skills, service or service orientation and good cognitive abilities are needed.
Therefore, Dr. Drajat asked all students to actively utilize the facilities provided by IPB University. "There are many facilities provided by IPB University. Those who want to exchange, international conferences, competitions at national and international levels, will be facilitated. Please students follow it, "he said.

He also added that students can actively participate in student activities such as participating in student organizations and Student Activity Units (UKM). He asserted that by participating in student activities is expected to hone student skills.

"Going forward, the success factor is no longer determined by the high grade point average (GPA) and the name of the college. In fact, the GPA and tertiary grades occupy the 23rd and 27th semester, "he added.

Dr. Drajat explained, there are ten success factors that need attention: honesty, discipline, good interpersonal skills, support from a spouse, working hard, loving what is done, good leadership skills, having enthusiasm and having a positive personality, managing a good life and the ability to sell ideas and products.

The Dean of the Vocational School of IPB University, Dr. Ir. Arief Darjanto, M.Ec said that the activity of studium generale or public lecture was important because the participants of the public lecture were new students. "Welcome to the Sukabumi Campus, even though it is far from its parent (main campus) in Bogor, it is hoped that the students here can still participate in lecture activities well," said Dr. Arief.

To expedite teaching and learning activities on the Sukabumi Campus, classrooms and laboratories have now been built. Student space has also been built which can be used as an organizational and SME secretariat. To support academic activities, Dr. Arief said, in the future an arboretum, close house, and field laboratory will be built around the campus. (Rosyid / Zul)
