In commemoration of the 54th Dies Natalis, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) held IPB Innovation Entrepreneurship Expo (IIEE) at Botani Square, Bogor (8/9). This IIEE was the third expo after IPB Investment Summit and IPB Open Innovation Expo.

In his speech when opening IIEE, Vice Rector for Research and Cooperation of IPB, Prof.Dr. Anas M. Fauzi, said that in this expo there were dozens of young entrepreneurs of successful alumni of IPB in the agricultural world. Currently, he explained, 70 percents of the alumni of IPB worked in the sectors related to the agricultural world. Other than that, IPB also developed the start up program as the effort of IPB to accelerate the downstream that could be perceived its benefits to support the agricultural development in a broad sense.

He said, the indication of the success in the early stages of the downstream process through the “IPB Model” could be perceived its benefits for the researchers and other stakeholders though still on a small scale.  Therefore, IPB continued to socialize through various activities such as the business meetings at IPB Investment Summit, IPB Innovation Expo, Food Industry Forum, and others.

On this occasion, Prof. Anas conveyed the message of the Rector of IPB, Prof.Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto to the exhibitors, i.e. there should be a follow-up effort (through a questionnaire) to be able to identify the potential visitors who could be explored. This was to gain the potential for the cooperation, both in the form of the development research and the investment.

“The goal is not just for the exhibition, but there is a follow up. The second message is that the expo participants should be able to promote IPB both for the science and innovation research results. This is for more enthusiasts or incoming students who will enter IPB,” he said.

IIEE aimed to utilize the intellectual property, especially the patent held by IPB (patent expo), to appreciate the inventors who had commercialized their patents (tribute to inventor), to communicate the innovation of IPB that entered the pioneering business to the interested partners (start-up forum), and to discuss the current issues related to the entrepreneurial opportunities and the new business model in the technology-based distruption and the social innovation (talk show).

There were 47 booths attended by the entrepreneurs from the students, the alumni, the researchers of IPB, and the general community who utilized the technology produced by IPB. This exhibition of the innovation and the entrepreneurship of IPB presented a variety of processed food products, the highly prospective and innovative farming, such as the Propolis and Trigona Honey, the liquid sugar of cassava skin, the biscuit Clarias from catfish, the Rendang Daun Singkong, the Rendang Ikan Pepetek, the Nutridiabet, and the Nutriasi.

So IPB was not only ‘teaching’, not only producing the competent human resources (HR) and becoming a good            quality university at the national and international levels, but we also produce the innovations that have been disseminated to the community. We invite all components to be downstream, not stopping in the form of the technology or in the form of the prototype in the laboratory. But the prototype has been entered to the industrial scale,’ he said.

In the opening of IIEE, the innovation on display was also selected to select the best and most prospective innovation. The innovation of the potato varieties of the french fries of Jala Ipam by Prof. Suharsono was selected as the most prospective innovation and managed to bring home a grant worth 20 million rupiah.

Selected innovation was sourced from the book of 100+ innovations of BIC version. There were 56 innovations that were eligible to be selected in the initial selection.
