Chairul Tanjung and Erick Thohir Supported the Research Utilization of IPB
Chairul Tanjung and Erick Thohir supported the increase of the benefits of research results of IPB for the benefits of industry and society. The research results of IPB were expected more of the perspective of outward looking. Thus expressed both, as a member of Majelis Wali Amanah (MWA) IPB in the Silaturrahmi of MWA IPB Management with the members of MWA IPB in the periods of 2014-2019, in Menara Bank Mega 25 Floor, Southern Jakarta, 3/11.
"Research on campus should be more open to the expectation of industry and user community of innovation results produced by campus. Inasmuch as, a new research product can be called innovative when it can be felt by the community, included it can be commercialized which brings benefits to the campus and its researcher also," asserted Chairul Tanjung, former Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, United Indonesia Cabinet (KIB) II, who was also the chairman of the business group of CT Corp.
Silaturrahmi of MWA IPB Management with the members of MWA IPB was held to make the same perception of the hope of Rectorate with the members of MWA IPB and to inform the development of IPB and the working program of MWA IPB in the periods of 2014-2019 after the publication of PP 66/2013 that set about Bogor Agricultural University as Higher Education with Legal Entity Status (PTNBH) referring to Law Number 12/2012 about Higher Education.
MWA IPB in the Period of 2014-2019 was led by Prof. Dr. MA. Chozin (Representative of Academic Senate) as the Chairman, Dr. Ahmad Mukhlis Yusuf (Representative of Community) as the Vice Chairman, and Prof. Rizal Syarief (Representative of Academic Senate) as the Secretary. As known, Chairul Tanjung, Erick Thohir, and Sugiharto (former of State Minister of BUMN) were recorded as the members of MWA IPB representing the elements of community. There were four representatives of community from 17 members of MWA IPB in accord with Statute of IPB.
In the same place, Erick Thohir revealed a similar situation in order the innovative products of IPB might be closer to the industry and the market, in addition to be utilized as part of Community Services which had been running.
"Of course, it must have been a lot of research works of IPB utilized by industry, but now there is the greater market potential because the issues of food and healthy living are increasingly sought by the community. Why not a veterinary hospital, which uses the expertise of veterinarians of alumni and lecturer of IPB to be constructed in a way to approach the market than being constructed on the campus as a teaching hospital? Surely many potential business partners," demolished Erick.
In the same place, Prof. Chozin asserted about the importance of the commitment of all members of MWA with the Rectorate of IPB to jointly increase the real role of IPB for nation according to the mandate given by the country to IPB. "IPB should be able to answer the challenges of food self-sufficiency, renewable energy and maritime development which are now becoming the new Government’s attention, " said Prof. Chozin. (*)
