Prof. Erliza Wins Intellectual Property Award in Patent 2018
Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenristekdikti RI) in one of its programs, the 23rd National Technology Day (Hateknas), held an awarding night of Intellectual Property Award in Patent 2018, category "Researcher with the Most Patent Proposal in SINTA (Science and Technology Index) Database in Kompleks Gubernuran, Riau Province, last August. In the list of recipient of Intellectual Property (KI) awardees in Patent 2018, Kemenristek Dikti RI invited researchers from Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Prof. Dr. Ir. Erliza Hambali and Prof. Dr. Ir. Ani Suryani, DEA.
"I am very happy to receive the award from Kemenristekdikti, given the fact that I did not register myself, but chosen to receive the KI award," she said. Prof. Erliza conveyed that this achievement was always backed by the support from Surfactant and Bioenergy Research Center IPB, Department of Agroindustrial Technology, FATETA IPB, and Directorate of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (DIK) IPB.
"The role of Directorate of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (DIK) IPB was very helpful for the researchers to register their patents. Researcher only needed to write their patent draft and sent it to DIK IPB. Next process would be taken care by the DIK staff. The researcher did not have to be troubled by the complex registration process of a patent. It has always been helpful," said Prof. Erliza.
Prof. Erliza Hambali had produced prospective innovations; 9 innovation and 13 registered invention patent. Moreover, Prof. Erliza had won the Outstanding Intellectual Property Award in 2012 and Prakarsa Innovation Award West Java in 2012.
Prof. Erliza hoped that in the future, the innovation would not be only appreciated by a certificate, but also by a tangible support to push the sustainability of her innovation that kept needing more researches. "I hope there would be a funding support so the existing innovation could always be developed, for example, to buy laboratory equipment or for the research that required a lot of funds," she added.
One of the innovations of Prof. Erliza is the palm oil based surfactant. Surfactant industry nowadays is still based on fossil, so compared to palm oil, Prof. Erliza's innovation is more eco-friendly. Becoming a lecturer does not become a drawback to her to implement her knowledge. IPB is one of the most innovative campuses in Indonesia. It is recorded that IPB has successfully given 38,95% of all the prospective innovations in Indonesia, based on Business Innovation Center (BIC) index.
