Let’s Join the Family Gardening Program at IPB Campus, Dramaga

You and your family are welcome to attend the gardening program or intend to start  their gardening hobbies, they may join the Teaching Farm Sadifa (Sarana Desiminasi Fakultas Pertanian IPB – Facilities provided by Faculty of Agriculture of IPB to Disseminate Information), in Jalan Lengkeng, IPB Campus, Dramaga, Bogor. In the experimental garden, visitors will be given opportunities to practice gardening or spend the day hiking with the entire family as outdoor recreation.

The Family Gardening Program at IPB Campus, Dramaga, Bogor will provide a fun, interactive, garden-themed learning environment in which families will learn and work together to gain the know-how and confidence to grow their own productive gardens for years to come! The garden program will mainly focus on growing edible plants, including peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, spinach, kale and sweet corn together. Then they may  come back on another day to harvest what they have grown.

This is FREE educational program starts on Saturday, 23 January 2016. Among the guests who presented in the special occasion among other were the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture IPB (FAPERTA IPB), Dr. Agus Purwito, former Dean of the same Faculty, Dr. Ernan Rustiadi, a number of researchers and lecturers of IPB. They were accompanied by their families, after the meeting the audiences were able to take home all the produce grown in the garden plots such as  dragon fruit and pumpkin.

Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture IPB, Dr. Agus Purwito, stated that the "Family Gardening" is opened for any participants, both internal and external members of IPB communties.

Yet, the Coordinator of the "Family Gardening", Dr. Ahmad Junaedi, explained that the objectives of establishing the “Teaching Farm Sadifa” are to  disseminate the research result generated by faculty members  of the Faculty of Agriculture of IPB. They were repackaged in the  gardening instruction through hands-on, family friendly gardening activities. "These gardens will also be promoted as the  agroedutourism object of IPB, so please visit us. However, in the near future, the Teaching Farm Sadifa will introduce how to grow a variety of perennial fruits such as bananas and pineapples, "he added. (Wied)
