IPB University Serves as a Local Hub for Global Ocean Robotics Day, Promoting International Collaboration in Marine Robotics
IPB University is one of the local hubs for Global Ocean Robotics Day, an international event organized by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (IEEE RAS) as part of its Distributed Online Technical Activity (DOT).
Through the Marine Instrumentation, Telemetry, and Robotics (MITR) Club, IPB University joined the local hub alongside nine other countries: Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates), Constructor University (Germany), University of Queensland (Australia), Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas (Colombia), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Harbin Engineering University (China), IIT Madras (India), Inha University (South Korea), and Universidade Federal Fluminense (Brazil).
“This initiative serves as a platform for exchanging knowledge on the application of robotics technology and the development of innovations in the marine sector,” said Prof Indra Jaya, representing IPB University.
According to him, IPB University’s involvement as a local hub presents an opportunity to expand international collaboration and strengthen the sustainability of marine technology development. Prof Indra Jaya emphasized the importance of marine robotics in helping humans understand and explore the ocean.
“The development of marine robotics at IPB University has been underway for more than a decade through learning, development, and design activities related to various marine technology projects involving the academic community,” he added.
The participants’ enthusiasm was also evident during the exhibition session, when MITR showcased its collection of underwater robots, from the first to the eighth generation, illustrating the journey of technological development over more than a decade. Participants also took part in a collaborative painting session and attended presentations by two international speakers, Abhilash Somayajula and Jaejeong Shin.
MITR’s journey demonstrates that the development of marine robotics requires consistency in learning, testing, and the renewal of human resources through intergenerational knowledge transfer, as well as institutional support.
Through its participation in Global Ocean Robotics Day, IPB University joined an international network focused on marine robotics, while also providing students with an opportunity to learn about global advancements in marine technology. (*/Rz) (IAAS/KQA)
