dr Citra Ariani Recommends Maintaining Proportional Activity Despite Fasting
Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine and Nutrition (FKGiz) of IPB University, dr Citra Ariani, SpKP, MBiomed, has urged the public to remain proportionally active while observing the Ramadan fast. According to her, balanced physical activity remains essential for maintaining fitness and preventing fatigue.
“Even while fasting, the body still needs to move. Light to moderate physical activity can help maintain energy and overall health,” she stated.
In addition to maintaining physical activity, dr Citra also emphasized the importance of a balanced diet and meeting the body’s fluid requirements. She advised the public to consume nutritionally adequate foods, such as protein, complex carbohydrates, and fiber during sahoor and iftar , as well as ensuring sufficient water intake.
Furthermore, dr Citra highlighted the changes in sleep patterns during Ramadan. “Shifts in sleep patterns can also affect daily performance, such as decreased concentration and energy levels when carrying out daily activities,” she added.
To prevent these impacts, she suggested avoiding the consumption of overly fatty or spicy foods during iftar. Additionally, the implementation of sleep hygiene is considered vital to improving sleep quality.
“Create a comfortable sleep environment, for example, by setting a cooler room temperature, turning off the lights, and not using gadgets for at least 30 minutes before bed,” she explained.
She also added that healthy sleep habits should ideally be maintained after Ramadan ends. This can be achieved by maintaining a consistent bedtime, reducing caffeine consumption before sleep, and avoiding smoking.
By maintaining physical activity, dietary patterns, and good sleep quality, dr Citra hopes the public can observe Ramadan while keeping their bodies healthy and fit. (dh) (IAAS/HNF)
