Prof Irmanida Batubara managed to rank second in the 2023 Academic Leaders Lecturer Award, Academic Leader in the Health sector. She won this award after promoting innovation from Indonesian Natural Resources as Raw Materials for Health and Cosmetic Products.

Prof Irmanida said that this innovation is an innovation that can support the medicine and cosmetics industry in Indonesia. This innovation is also a form of collaboration between lecturers, students, universities both at home and abroad, the government and the community.

“Some of the innovations implemented are beauty innovations and health innovations. The natural resources that have been used include salam as a skin lightener, mangrove as an anti-aging agent, guava leaf extract for treating Covid-19 to Bioluric, a medicine to treat gout and c et chic toothpaste,” she explained.

She continued, these various innovations prove that IPB University supports Indonesia’s health independence through the use of natural resources.

“Law (UU) Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health, states that natural medicine is a pharmaceutical preparation that can be used for health maintenance, health improvement, disease prevention, treatment and health restoration, based on empirical and scientific evidence,” she said.

According to Prof Irmanida, scientific support will increase public confidence in using natural ingredients for health. She hopes that Indonesian natural ingredients will be used more for health, both for the health of the Indonesian people and the world.

“IPB University students are expected to help speed up the process of utilising Indonesian natural materials starting from standardised cultivation, post-harvest, product development, standardisation of processes and products, as well as their utilisation, especially support from the entire academic community in all faculties including the Faculty of Medicine,” said Prof Irmanida.

At this prestigious event, Prof Irmanida had the impression that a lecturer has many responsibilities to be able to develop and apply his knowledge, especially for the progress of the Indonesian nation.

“All Academic Leader nominees are great lecturers who have dedicated themselves to the future of the Indonesian nation according to their fields,” said this Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry. (IAAS/RZL)
