Nugget Daun Lamtoro by IPB Students won 3rd place in Business Plan Competititon
Many new businesses developed by IPB University students led them to win in the business plan competition. Three students from the Department of Fisheries Resource Utilization (PSP), the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) on behalf of Santi Febrianti, Aisyah Nur Nabila, and Thoriq Aziz succeeded in making the name of IPB University by winning 3rd place in the Sharia Economic Expo Business Plan Competition 2019 at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang not long ago. In their business plan, they took the theme "Optimizing Islamic Sociopreneur to Develop Halal Industry in Indonesia".
The three students made an innovation of nugget made from lamtoro leaf or Chinese petai which was high in calcium as a stunting prevention. In addition, the availability of abundant lamtoro leaves also supports this innovation.
"Our innovation is Toro Nugget which is a nugget made from lamtoro leaf as a high calcium food to prevent stunting. The reason why? The first is the problem of stunting in Indonesia, especially in Bogor. According to the Regent of Bogor, Ade Yasin, there are still 188,996 toddlers in Bogor Regency suffering from stunting until the end of 2018. The second reason is the abundance of lamtoro leaves but has not been utilized optimally," said Santi Febrianti.
The nutritional content of Chinese petai or lamtoro leaves is quite complete. Of the several nutrients that are prominent are calcium. Other nutrients found in Chinese petai leaves are fat, protein, phosphorus, and vitamin A.
"Actually for stunting it's not just a matter of lack of calcium but overall nutrition. We also add some additional ingredients such as carrots to support the nutritional content of the nuggets. The development of this Toro Nugget product, will later use catfish mixture, in order to increase the nutritional content in the nuggets so that it becomes complete. It is hoped that this product can develop and be accepted by the market," added Thoriq Aziz.
Besides using lamtoro leaf as a nugget material, another advantage of the business designs of these three students is the donation coin system for ZISWAF (Zakat, Infaq, Sadaqah, Waqf). "In our business plan, there is a system of donation coins for zakat, infaq, sadaqah, and waqf or commonly called (ZISWAF) which leads to the economic potential of modern Islam and sociopreneurs," he added.
