Publiworkshop: A Researcher Has to Write, Otherwise He/She Isn’t A Researcher
A writer has to write the results of their study. If not, he/she better quit. So was stated by Prof Dr Daniel Murdiarso, a professor of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), from Geophysics and Meteorology Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) in Publiworkshop, held in Andi Hakim Nasoetion Auditorium, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor (24/9).
Publiworkshop, which is one of the activities included in Publiweek, has the theme of "Tips to Get Published in Reputable International Journals". Prof Daniel is a researcher who tops the search results of the journal Scopus.
According to him, publication is one of the job of researchers. A researcher can be the lecturer or his/her pupil. No collaboration between lecturer and pupil means no publication. While writing his research results, the researcher has to know who the potential readers are and what will his/her (the researcher) contribute to the society.
"No need to be afraid and discouraged when facing obstacles in writing, especially if the paper is intended to be published in an international journal. We can take an example from Japanese researchers. They have limitations in English, but nevertheless still excel because they are diligent," he said.
At the same occasion, the Head of Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM) IPB, Dr Aji Hermawan in his greeting stated that in that week LPPM IPB would hold various activities to increase the enthusiasm for international publication for both lecturers and students through Publiweek, Publicourse, Publiclinic, and Publiexpo.
"International scientific publication is an important thing that is always talked about. Publication is the prominent thing that is demanded from the higher-ups of the university and ministry. Research publications give impacts to many things. Starting from the university's performance, the research's performance, and the national and international ranking of the university. Because of that, it is inevitable for us as researchers to put our researches at the center," he said.
According to him, publications should be done not only to pursue higher ranking, but to provide a platform to share knowledge, not just for showing off in a journal.
"Moreover, the publications is an intellectual expression that we need to share to public. We are the top leaders of our fields. With various programs to strengthen this publication, we hope there will be strategies shared by the speakers in this event," he said.
The speakers attending the Publiworkshop are Suharyo Sumowidagdo from Indonesia Young Scientists Academy (ALMI) and Dr Eva Anggraeni (Vice President of Strategic Study and Scientific Publication LPPM IPB). (Ard)
