As the effort to improve the quality of a national and international journal, Institute of Research and Community Empowerment, Bogor Agricultural University (LPPM IPB) conducted a Scientific Article Writing Workshop, Tuesday (25/9), in IPB International Convention Center (IICC). This workshop was the second workshop after the first one was conducted in August 2018. “This workshop aimed to enhance the enthusiasm to publish of academicians and researchers of IPB,” said Dr. Eva Anggraini, SP., M.Si, the Vice Head of LPPM IPB in Strategic Studies and Scientific Publication.

Dr. Eva said that LPPM IPB tried to answer the challenge to have more national and international publications. Currently, a publication is important to determine the performance of a university in developing the capacity of the researchers.

“Not only publication from IPB, but also from other universities in Indonesia. Because right now we have entered the era of university ranking in international level,” Dr. Eva added.

One of the markings that are included in World University Ranking (WUR) is the amount of research finding that is published in the international journal. It does not stop in publishing, the article published must have a tangible impact on society. One way to prove the impact is the number of citations.

“Currently, the focus of LPPM IPB is increasing the amount of publication of the scientific article to Scopus-indexed journal,” said Dr. Eva.

For an article to be published in a scientific journal, there are criteria that must be fulfilled by researchers. Some of the requirements include well-designed research, good data, correct statistical analysis using strong analytical concepts, few human errors, objective and unbiased interpretation of data, easy to understand articles, and has zero mistakes in scientific writing ethics such as plagiarism, fabrication, and data manipulation.

“To publish a scientific article, the research must be designed as publishable, not only to fulfill the interest of stakeholders, government, and society, but it has to qualify to be published,” said Dr. Anuraga Jayanegara as a speaker. Scientific publication Is important as a requirement to graduate and to expand the network, to achieve scholarship in several countries, to enhance the reputation of research quality, and elevate H-index for lecturers and researchers.

In the publication of scientific articles in international journals, a researcher must consider the credibility of the journal. This is because not all journal site owners can be trusted, and many make journal sites as mere business venues. "Researchers must be careful with predatory journals or journals that only pursue their business. "To find out the most credible journal site, the easiest is that the journal has been indexed by Scopus or registered in Scopus," concluded Dr. Anuraga.

The training of scientific article writing was facilitated by three speakers; Dr. Anuraga Jayanegara, S.Pt, M.Sc (Research Project Design, Ethics issue, Plagiarisms and Self-Plagiarisms), Dr. Berry Juliandi, S.Si., M.Si (Reference manager, Choosing Journal, Review Process and Respond to Reviews), and Dr. Hawis Madduppa, S.Pi., M.Si (Good Scientific conduct, Scientific Writing and Reading). There was also a session called Scientific Writing Clinic where the participants were divided into three groups and each guided by the speakers. (CN)
