Himagron Planting Clubs of IPB Help Students to Develop Its Profession in Agronomy and Horticultural Fields
Growing plants for a purpose has become the common program for students of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, of the Faculty of Agriculture, of Bogor Agricultural University (FAPERTA IPB). The mandate if the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture is to develop the science and technology of phyto resource production and the environment management. Accordingly, it the function of the Department to deepen the knowledge of its students and apply the newest methods in plant cultivation techniques, it is not surprising that rice field is the most frequently visited by students for their practical works every morning.
Not only through practical works, the Association of Students of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture of IPB (HIMAGRON) seeks to develop students' interest and talents on crop cultivation by forming several planting clubs. Afdal Yusra, a student of the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, who is concurrently the Chairman of the Sayur Club explained that the club aims to improve the capacity of Agronomy and Horticulture students in terms of profession. Himagron Club is under the auspices of the Department of Agroimplement, Himagron.
"So it is an independent Planting Club, its operational works are under the responsibility of Himagron. Its annual work plans and budgets are formulated by the Executive Boards of the Club, consisted of chairman, secretary, treasurer, permanent member, and volunteer, while the club's budget is fully supplied by Himagron," he added.
Himagron Club is divided into Vegetable, Fruit, Ornamental, Drug and Aromatic, and Plantation Clubs.
"Every club has its own organizational structure. Related to its work program, the Club planned weekly work programs, whether in the field, laboratory, official visits, or just room discussion. The Vegetable, Fruit and Medicinal and Aromatic Crop Clubs work program are centralized in Cikabayan Experiment Garden of IPB," he explained.
The Ornamental Plants Club carries out its work programs in the Leuwikopo Orchids Garden, whereas the Plantation Plants Club carries out its work programs in the Cikabayan Atas Experimental Garden.
We expect that such Clubs can be the station or the forum to increase the capacity of AGH's profession as a place to learn, and to share information. In addition, the Clubs also expect to be the forum for the development of an entrepreneurial spirit among the youth spirit and channelize their potentialities," he concluded. (Wied)
