Chairman of the Green Campus Team of IPB, Dr. Agus Oman Sudrajat said, the movement toward IPB Green Campus in 2020 aims to develop the environmentally-based behaviors of IPB communities. It is also to realize an environmentally-friendly campus of IPB (zero waste, zero emission, rich in bio-and cultural-diversity), create a campus condition that is safe, comfortable and conducive to a successful learning system, reduce the use of plastic bags by introducing ecobag, monitor the energy use in buildings, carry out waste and liquid waste management, apply an environmentally-friendly transport system, promote energy-saving habits and increase the use of solar energy or alternative energy sources.
It is said, IPB launches the Green Movement program in which the students as initiators will enforce the environmental movement. The great agenda of the green movement includes eco-labeling of healthy canteens, reducing plastic use, the use of tumbler and ecobag, integrated waste management and the movement Hayu atuh! (Let’s do it!). Hayu atuh! is a movement with the concept of a thematic day, that is, every day campaign of environmental awareness and local wisdoms through offline and online media. On March 1, 2016 and, Yatri said further,
IPB has implemented green transportation by integrating bus transportation, electric cars, bicycles, pedestrian (walk) and reducing private vehicle traffic (cars and motorcycles). Green Transportation is urgent to start early because the problems of emissions, safety and social unrest have become a major issue in the campus.
While the implementation of green building and green open space is done by limiting the use of Air Conditioner (AC), improving room ventilations , reforestation of parking spaces in order to improve the comfort and beauty of the campus and the development of agriculture germplasm collection (fruits, wood, etc.). "Equally important, IPB is doing green movement or green culture, a process of cultural development by changing the mindset, attitudes, and behaviors of community members oriented to the environmental friendliness through a campaign of awareness, massive social movements, and development of green champions and so on," explains Yatri.
