Chief of BIN RI: Campus Neutrality Should Be Preserved to Reduce Radicalization

Chief of National Intelligence Agency of the Republic of Indonesia, Lieutenant General (TNI) Marciano Norman, said that campus neutralization should stay awake to quell radicalism and violence conducted by students. “We should maintain the independence of the campus that is not utilized by parties who are not responsible, to provoke the students with the aim of encouraging them to take the mass action and the movement of violence that harm the nation,” said Marciano firmly while giving a speech in the National Workshop for Rector/Head of Higher Education titled ‘Strategi Pengelolaan Potensi Konflik Mahasiswa Menjadi Resolusi Alternatif dan Pemberdayaan yang Produktif Management Strategy for Potential Student Conflict to Become Alternative Resolution and Productive Empowerment’, Friday (26/4) at Bogor Agriculture University (IPB), International Convention Center (IICC). The activity organized by Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution and Empowerment (CARE) Institute of Research and Community Empowerment of IPB was attended by the management or the representatives of 27 universities throughout Indonesia. 
 
Recognized by Marciano, the students had a great energy that required the channeling positive place.  Campus institution was expected to be the place to pin the hope of channeling of the student positive energy. “In the campus we hope that the students foster the spirit of leadership and the academic intellect. But the campus also requires a good will from all sides, especially from the government to make it more conducive to student progress,” said Marciano. Of course, in an effort to reduce radicalization of policy normalization could not be done as past campus. Therefore, in this meeting it would be formulated an appropriate policy to maintain the independence of the campus without reducing the student extracurricular activities and other activities outside of the campus.   
 
Vice Rector for Research and Collaboration of IPB, Prof.Dr.Ir.Anas Miftah Fauzi, said that the history recorded the struggle of students and youth in uniting the nation component in the youth oath, displacing the Old Order, carrying the banner of reform. The image should disappear just because the attitude of anarchism in the name of solidarity, the differences in ego or interests that took the community skeptical attitude toward students and university.  “Need an attempt to rebalance the heights of science and in obedience to God which is manifested in the social relations. Through this meeting, the results of sharing thoughts and ideas of university these days are able to get the thinking formula to answer all the problems related to the conflict management of students positive energy that is able to bring a better change,” said Prof.Anas.
